Identity verification
How eKYC works for direct benefit transfers
Electronic KYC confirms your identity so welfare payments and scholarships reach your bank account. This guide explains what the process involves, which verification methods are accepted, and how to confirm your Aadhaar is linked correctly.
Ways to complete eKYC
Most schemes accept one of three verification routes. Choose the one that matches the access you have available, and check the official notification for the scheme you are applying under.
OTP verification
Enter the one-time password sent to the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar. The number must be active and linked to your identity record.
Biometric at a CSC center
Visit a Common Service Centre and complete fingerprint or iris authentication. Staff can also help if your biometrics have expired or failed earlier attempts.
Face authentication app
Use the official face-authentication application on a compatible smartphone. Good lighting and a clear camera improve the chance of a successful match.
Check your Aadhaar-bank seeding
Direct benefit transfers require your Aadhaar to be seeded with an active bank account. Follow these steps to link the accounts and confirm mapping status.
1. Gather your Aadhaar number, registered mobile number, and bank passbook or account details. 2. Visit your bank branch and submit the Aadhaar seeding request form, or use the bank's official online service where available. 3. Wait for the bank to confirm the link, then check the status on the official NPCI mapper portal. 4. If the status shows an error, such as a name mismatch, correct the record with your bank before retrying eKYC.
